Maria Carmichael is a contemporary painter who works primarily with acrylic and oil on canvas and has been featured in regional group exhibitions and local community galleries. Inspired by concepts she encountered while earning her bachelor’s degree in psychological sciences, her work focuses on giving tangible form to invisible emotional and cognitive states. In this body of work, BEING, Maria uses the intensity of the subject’s gaze and vibrant color to explore the identity incongruence that can develop through the experience of being perceived.
